Mapping  Matilda

Matilda's charters are some of the most important documents that remain for studying the countess. Mapping Matilda was something that began for my doctoral dissertation as a need to understand the countess' movement. Though we cannot in most cases know the precise location of the charters given, I have attempted to get as close as possible in hopes that this new display of data will be useful to future Canossan scholars. The raw data can be viewed here.

This project is based on the transcribed charters from: Matilde, Elke Goez, and Werner Goez. Die Urkunden und Briefe der Markgräfin Mathilde von Tuszien. Monumenta Germaniae Historica 2. Hanover: Hahnsche Buchhandlung, 1998.
