Art and architecture are more than just "pretty things" to look at—they are complex languages waiting to be decoded. I wrote this zine because I wanted to provide a roadmap for those who feel that spark of curiosity but aren't sure how to translate it into a deep, formal critique.
My goal is to help readers develop their insightful eye. Visual analysis is a muscle; it requires a specific kind of "looking" that goes beyond the surface. I wanted to create a portable resource that helps you hone the skill of breaking down a visual field into its constituent parts. This guide is designed to bridge the gap between passive viewing and active interrogation. By providing a structured framework of questions, it empowers students to peel back the layers of a work and engage thoughtfully.
It is best suited for 8.5" x 11" paper (US Letter), and can be in both color (I don't have a B/W copy yet, sorry!). I've also linked a guide which shows how to properly fold the zine.
