ARH3300: Audit/Intervention Strategies @ Powell House, Elon University
Students in ARH3300: Un/Ethical Museum were tasked with identifying issues with Powell House (the current location of the Art History/Public History/Museum studies faculty). This assignment was tied into a lesson on Fred Wilson's exhibition 'Mining the Museum' (Maryland Historical Society, 1992-3) in which Wilson audited the existing collection and reconceptualized exhibition strategies in order to explore some of the shortcomings and implicit biases of the collection and those who managed it.
Students were asked to think about the phenomenological aspects of Powell House and identify areas where it could be more useful to students and the art collection on campus.
